Mon, Feb 7 - 5 PM: Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Visit

Kevin Schaefer, Student Recruiter from Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine will be in the Honors Lounge, SVC 1040 from 5 - 6 PM on Monday, Feb 7 to talk to students:

Why Podiatry?

• Average work week of 42.5 hours
• Average $110-170,000/year
• Specialties include Surgery, Orthopedics, Sports Medicine
• Increased demand expected in near future
• More control over your time
• Podiatrists say that they enjoy the fact that a patient can come into their office in excruciating pain, and walk out a few hours later pain free.

Interested in a career in medicine that allows you a life outside of work?
Podiatry is a profession that not many students are familiar with. Surprisingly few students are aware that podiatrists do complex surgery.

It is also an option for students who are athletes or interested in sports medicine. We have a surprising number of former athletes, dancers, runners, etc. that became interested through their activities. Sports medicine is a quickly growing field in medicine, and podiatry is a very large part of that.

Foot disease is the most common complication of diabetes leading to hospitalization. According to a recent survey, about 86,000 lower limbs are amputated annually due to complications from diabetes. Podiatrist can reduce amputations rates by 45% to 85% with proper care. (http://thediabeticfoot.com/aboutdiabetes.html)

GPA should be 3.2 or higher.
MCAT; an acceptable score of 22 or higher.
